Y5 are cryptographers!

posted 13 Jan 2015, 12:32 by Lynsie Tuplin
As part of the new computing curriculum, Y5 started a new topic 'We are cryptographers'. This topic looks at a range of ways of sending and receiving messages and cracking codes. This leads on to learning about internet security, passwords and e-safety. Today, Y5 explored flag semaphore. This is a system for transmitting information over a distance using visual signals with hand-held flags. The children signalled to gain attention and pass a message. They cracked a semaphore code and sent a message along a semaphore relay. Next week: Morse code!
