Y5 Basketball team show true spirit

On Wednesday 22nd January, the Y5 basketball team competed in a tournament against other local schools at Ecclesfield Secondary school.  They faced very tough competition, playing against children who had clearly had a significant amount of basketball training.  Throughout the tournament, the children listened to advice given, were ready with advice for others in the team and everyone made significant improvement to their game.
At the end of 3 games, we had a situation where all teams had won one and drawn one so the final matches were the deciders.  Unfortunately, we lost that match by one basket which meant that we will not be progressing to the finals.
Talking with the children at the end of the tournament, we focused on the positives to take away from the event.  They had all thoroughly enjoyed themselves and learnt a huge amount, improving with every match.  They displayed some fantastic skills with great attacking play by Jorja, Taione and Jacob, excellent passing by Addison, Lily and Alex and some superb motivational team talks by Katie and Francesca who showed great leadership qualities.  With every match, they gelled as a team and helped each other out.
I was very proud to have these children with me to represent St Mary's and look forward to working with them as a team if other opportunities arise. Well done guys, you were a credit to school and your parents!!
