Attendance

One of the most important things you can do for your child is to make sure they attend school regularly and on time. Regular attendance at school is vital to help children achieve their full potential and get the best possible start in life.

You must let school know if your child is going to be absent, give a reason for the absence and indicate how long the absence is likely to be. Wherever possible, make appointments outside of school time. Family holidays should be taken in school holiday periods. If there are exceptional circumstances requiring an absence, then an application for term time leave should be made. The form can be found here:

If your child is absent and no contact is made with school, we will phone you. If we cannot make contact by phone or we are concerned about the absence, members of staff will conduct a home visit.

If your child's attendance is causing concern, we will ask you to attend a meeting which may involve other agencies. This meeting will outline support and actions to be taken. If there is no improvement in attendance, legal action may be taken against parents. The member of staff with responsibility for monitoring levels of attendance is Mrs Gillies.

Below is a flyer with more information about attendance from Sheffield City Council.
